THE ANALYSIS CRITERIA
The Lighting for Good Charter v2023.B1.
Our charter is a scientific rating system.
developed with the Canadian laboratory CIRAIG
In order to reduce environmental impact and to obtain data and information about the life cycle of a product, we partner with the research organization CIRAIG to process Life Cycle Analysis. Based on this analysis we determined criteria used in a rating system – the Lighting for Good Charter – which can be applied for any lighting apparel through our scorecard.
*is a mandatory criteria
ABOUT THE METHOD
How are the criteria weighted?
For the criteria which influence on the environmental performance of the LED fixture system could be assessed through the life cycle assessment methodology, whereby the individual criterion weight is calculated as the average of the percent reduction for the four environmental indicator scores between the baseline LED fixture system (having the worst value for the criterion indicated in the charter) and the improved system (having the best value for the criterion), divided by the sum of the individual reductions for all criteria for each indicator. The system modelling considers the whole life cycle of the LED fixture, and a global grid mix for the electricity used during the use stage.
Criteria - Definitions.
Within the 3-step process we have 7 ways to reduce the impact of a lighting fixture
SCORECARD CALCULATION
How is the total score calculated?
The criterias which influence the environmental performance of the LED fixture system could be assessed through the life cycle assessment methodology, the ratio for each criteria is multiplied by 0 or 1 for “no/yes” criteria, or by the number of leaves the system scores on the criteria (1–5). The individual scores for the criterias are then summed together to get the total score for the system.
